Abstract
The mineralogy and grain size distribution of some dustfall samples collected during the summer of 1978 in the City of Kuwait were determined. It was found that dustfall sediments in Kuwait are composed mainly of calcareous silt. They are also characterised by the frequent occurrence of dolomite and gypsum. Based on their mineralogical composition, prevailing wind direction and comparison with Iraq dust storm sediments, it is suggested that the dust storm sediments of Kuwait are most probably derived from the dry flood plain deposits in South Iraq. The surface deposits of Northwestern Kuwait could contribute partly to these sediments.
