Abstract

A review of matrix‑ and surface‑assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI/SALDI‑MS) approaches for the chemical analysis of fingermark residues. The article summarizes sample‑preparation strategies, ionization aids, and imaging workflows, highlights current forensic applications and chemometric interpretation, and outlines challenges and future directions for robust, intelligence‑led fingermark analysis.
