Abstract

An automated procedure based on available empirical formulae for penetration and perforation in steel objects is developed. A computer program is written in FORTRAN 77 to solve these empirical formulae using various material properties and dropped heights. Results obtained from these formulae are compared with those obtained from the finite element program OBAID. Flow chart and partial program listings together with the output are given for those who wish to carry out in-depth study. This paper is the beginning of the vast Kuwaiti program of research work on the safety analysis of oil rigs against impact and explosion.
