Abstract English

Water/oil emulsions are formed during oil production in Kuwait oil fields. The formation of these emulsions causes problems in production operations, surface facilities and refineries. The main objective of this study was to study the effect of various factors affecting the stability of these emulsions. In this project, we have investigated the role of asphaltenes, resins, chemical demulsifiers, blending with organic solvents, the effect of aqueous phase pH, and the effect of inorganic solids and waxes on the stability of water-in-oil emulsions. In addition, we have studied the effect of water cut on viscosity of water-in-crude oil emulsions. Results of this project will improve our understanding and ability in dealing with emulsion problems.
