Introduction, Evaluation and Propagation of the Argan Tree for Greenery and Oil Production in Kuwait - Phase I : Introduction and Propagation

تم استقدام شجرة الأرجان من المغرب و هي شجرة متعددة الاستخدامات، لتحديد مدى قابليتها لأغراض التخضير و إنتاج الزيوت في الكويت. تم عمل الدراسات لمعرفة تأثيرات عملية النقع الأولي للبذور على معدلات الإنبات و تأسيس الشتلات، و قد أوضحت النتائج إن جميع معالجات النقع الأولي لم يكن لها أي تأثير على تحفيز عملية الإنبات. أوضحت نتائج التجارب على تأثير نوع الأصيص و نوع الوسط الإنمائي على عملية الإنبات و تأسيس الشتلات أن الوسط الإنمائي المكون من تربة:بيتموس:هيوموس بمعدلات 2:1:1 موضوعا في أصيص جيفي بحجم 10 سم قد أعطى أعلى معدل للإنبات. و بينت تجربة الأداء الحقلي أن هناك فروقا واضحة بين المعالجات المختلفة خلال فترة التجربة. أعطت الدراسات الأولية مؤشرات إيجابية حول المردود البيئي، و لكن التقرير المفصل يتطلب تحليل تأثير النظام البيئي المحيط لعدة سنوات. كما يوصى بعمل المزيد من الدراسات حول تأسيس و تطوير الزراعة الحقلية و طرق الإكثار الخضري.

The argan, a multi purpose tree from Morocco was introduced to determine its suitability for greenery applications and oil production in Kuwait. Studies conducted to investigate the effect of pre-sowing soaking treatments on seed germination and seedling establishment of argan showed that none of the pre-sowing treatments were effective in promoting germination. Experiments to study the effect of container type, planting medium and seed soaking on germination and seedling establishment indicated that a medium containing soil: peat moss: humus in the ratio of 2:1:1 v/v/v in 10cm jiffy pots gave maximum germination. The experiment on field performance indicated that there was significant difference between the treatments throughout the course of the experiment. The preliminary studies to evaluate the potential and preliminary environmental impact statement have given positive indicators, but a detailed report is possible only after analyzing its impact on the surrounding ecosystem over a period of few years. Further studies on the establishment of a field plantation and development of vegetative propagation methods have been recommended.
