Development of IPad Interactive Story and Sequences Application for the Treatment of Speech Disorders and Enhancement of Speech

يصاب الأطفال باضطرابات النطق والكلام عند فقدهم القدرة على إصدار أصوات الكلام بشكل صحيح أو بطلاقة. وبالإمكان علاج حالات اضطراب النطق والكلام عن طريق جلسات علاجية مع أخصائي النطق والكلام. بناء على طلب من مستشفى الطب الطبيعي وإعادة التأهيل في الكويت، يعتزم هذا المشروع على بناء تطبيقين لجهاز الآيباد مستهدفاً الأطفال الذين يعانون من اضطرابات الكلام. الغرض من المشروع هو تعليم الأطفال الذين يعانون من تأخر النطق القدرة على التمييز بين الأفعال المؤنثة والمذكرة، والقدرة على استخدام خاصية التسلسل. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، سوف يكون التطبيق الأول عبارة عن قصص تفاعلية قصيرة بينما يكون التطبيق الثاني عبارة عن أداة تساعد على تعليم الأفعال المتتالية وهما بذلك يعززان بناء المهارات اللغوية لدى الأطفال. وسوف تكون هذه التطبيقات بمثابة الأدوات التي تسمح للآباء بتحسين مهارات أطفالهم بسهولة في المنزل.

A person with speech disorder is one who is unable to produce speech sounds correctly or fluently, has difficulties in pronouncing sounds, or articulation. Speech disorders are treatable with speech therapy where the child learns how to create certain sounds. Based on a request from the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital (PMRH) in Kuwait, this project intends to build two iPad applications that target children with speech disorders. The purpose of the project is to teach children with delayed speech to differentiate between feminine and masculine verbs, and sequencing. The first application is intended to be an interactive storybook and the second application is intended to be learning tools based on sequences, where both applications help build language skills in children. The applications would be tools that allow parents to improve their children’s skills at the ease of their home.
