Abstract English

Coating and addition of stabilizers are solutions developed and used in the last two decades to solve degradation of polymeric materials due to environmental conditions. This research project is to study and determine the effect of UV stabilizers and Light Transforming (LT) additives on Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) films, produced by EQUATE. Focusing on the chemical engineering side of the study, where Accelerated Weathering (AW) up to 50 days of exposure and Natural Weathering (NW) up to 16 months of exposure has been achieved in this study. LLDPE films (100 µm thickness) were tested for the mentioned durations in three different formulations. Types formulation were: UV, LT, and UV/LT combination. Different concentrations were used in the specified formulations to establish a better understanding of the changes and effect monitored. Different UV concentrations were used ranging from 0.3% to 1%. Different LT concentrations were also tested for the same period. Samples collected from both AW and NW have been subjected to physical chemical tests included %stress, %strain, %haze, %transmission, total change in color, and density.
