Egeria Nifaia Investigating the Effect of Different Mixtures of Plastic Solid Waste Feedstock on Pyro-Products

عادة ما تصنف النفايات على أساس المصادر الناجمة منها، والتي تحتوي بالمجمل على منتجات استهلاكية محورة من مشتقات النفط الخام كما هو الحال في النفاية البلاستيكية الصلبة والإطارات المطاطية المستعملة. كما تتكون النفاية البلاستيكية الصلبة من المواد البولي أوليفينة كما هي الحال في راتنج البولي ايثيلين والبولي بروبلين المستخدمان في العديد من المنتجات اليومية البلاستيكية. علماً بأن هذا المقترح جاء بناءً على طلب من مؤسسة الكويت للتقدم العلمي (KFAS)، حيث يتعاون معهد الكويت للأبحاث العلمية مع كل من شركة البترول الكويتية للبحث والتكنولوجيا وشركة بايو كويست ألاينس، ومن الجدير بالذكر أن هذا المقترح هو الأول من نوعه الذي من خلاله سوف يتم إنتاج الوقود المتجدد من النفايات البلاستيكية بمقياس نمطي (شبه صناعي). وستتم دراسة النفايات البلاستيكية وراتنج البلاستيك النقي كلقيم يمثل ذلك المتجدد والناجم من المصادر البلدية بغية إنتاج الزيوت من عمليات الكيمياء الحراري بأجواء خاملة.

Solid waste (SW) is typically categorised based on its source, and the majority of commodities used are in fact a derivative of crude oil which end up as a waste component. Such include plastic solid waste (PSW) and end of life tyres (ELTs). PSW typically originates from polyolefinic waste which is comprised mainly of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resulting from converting commercial grade resin into film and rigid articles used in various sectors. In this project which was commissioned and requested by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) is collaborating with both Kuwait Petroleum Research & Technology (KPRT) and the BioQuest Alliance (BQA) (and others) to deliver a first of its kind pilot plant phase ‘renewable’ and clean fuel from waste execution plan. The project will execute in a three-way manner a pilot plant study on PSW and virgin grades of plastics for comparative assessment. The fuels extracted namely pyro-oil will be investigated for fuel grade fractions.
