Locally Sourced and Manufactured 3-Dimensionally Printed Swabs and Viral Transport Medium for COVID-19

إن مـن اهـم سـبل مكافحـة فايـروس كورونـا المسـتجد تكمـن في تشـخيص المـرض لتقديـم العلـاج واحتـواء الحالات للسـيطرة علـى إنتشـاره، وتعـد المسـحات الأنفية البلعوميـة هـي الأدق حاليا للحصـول علـى التشـخيص الصحيـح عـن طريـق الكشـف البلمـري PCR في المختبـرات الطبيـة.
لا شـك أن هنـاك طلـب كبيـر عـلى هـذه المسـحات حالي في جميـع أنحـاء العالـم ومـن المتوقـع حـدوث نقـص عالمـي خـلال الأسابيع القليلـة القادمـة، ولمعالجـة هـذا النقـص الوشـيك أصبـح مـن المهـم صناعتهـا محليـا، ونتيجـة لذلـك تعـد تقنيـة الطباعـة ثلاثية الأبعاد منصـة مثاليـة لإنتاج مسـحات بمواصفـات وجـودة معتمـدة عالميـا. تهـدف هـذه الدراسـة إلى تطويـر وإنتـاج مسـحات
لتشـخيص فايـروس الكورونـا المسـتجد ضافـة الى عـدة نقلهـا )Swabs Printed D3 )

إلي مختبـرات وزارة الصحـة في دولـة الكويـت، بالإضافة إلى اختبـارات إكلينيكيـة صارمـة تحـت إشـراف وزارة الصحـة وتدابيـر مراقبـة الجـودة لضمـان المنفعـة والفعاليـة قبـل تسـليمها لـوزارة الصحـة. في النهايـة نتمنـى تحقيـق هدفنـا في مسـاعدة الكويـت خـلال الفتـرة الحرجـة في تلبيـة الاحتياج وسـد النقـص في مسـتلزمات التشـخيص، ونحـن عـلى ثقـة بكفـاءات الكويـت في نجـاح هـذا المشـروع بـإذن اللـه

The ability to accurately diagnose coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is integral to public health efforts to contain disease
spread. The most common method to obtain specimens currently is through nasopharyngeal swabs, which are then transported
in viral culture media. These testing kits are currently in extremely high demand and global shortages are expected soon. To
address this impending shortage, local manufacture of the specimen collection kits is important. Nasopharyngeal swabs to
obtain COVID-19 specimens and its associated transport media must possess specific attributes to be effective. As a result, 3-D printing technologies are an ideal platform to efficiently produce swabs with customized specifications. This study aims
to optimize the manufacturing process to produce COVID-19 testing kits in Kuwait. In addition, the testing kits will undergo
rigorous clinical testing and quality control measures to ensure clinical utility and efficacy. Following the clinical testing
phase, the swabs will continue to be monitored for quality, as production scales up. Ultimately, the goal will be to continue
production to meet the demands of the Kuwaiti population during this pandemic crisis.
