Abstract English

The study focuses on the challenges facing the State of Kuwait as a result of the present Iraqi regime. The project considers certain options and suggests the need for different policies towards the Iraqi people and towards Iraqi intellectuals even if they were not members of the mainstream opposition. It explains the difficult dynamics between Iraq and the State of Kuwait and the difficulties Iraq will face as long as the presidency of Saddam Hussein continues. The study also addresses, at some length, the roots of the border dispute between the two countries until the UN demarcation of those borders. While the demarcation of the borders is a technical step in the right direction, the project maintains that the border dispute will continue to be a source of political conflict between the two countries. In the future, the author concludes, Kuwait will have to address the issue at the political and economic levels. This can take place in the context of economic cooperation with a system in Iraq that can demonstrate peaceful intentions.
