Investigating the use of Native Plants in Poultry Feed in Kuwait

تواجه صناعة الدواجن المحلية معوقات مثل تكلفة العلف العالية التي تؤثر على انتاج الدواجن. أحد الحلول المقترحة هو استخدام النباتات المحلية كمكون الأعلاف للدواجن. وإذا تم اكثار النباتات بنجاح في ظل بيئة محكمة يمكن استخدامه كمصدر تغذية للدواجن لتقليل الاعتماد على استيراد الأعلاف. ويهدف هذا المشروع إلى 1) تحديد النباتات المحلية التي يمكن استخدامها في علف الدواجن.2) تحديد نسبة الهضم للنباتات المحلية. وسيتم تنفيذ المشروع على مرحلتين. المرحلة الاولى وهي محور المشروع الحالي وستركز على تحديد النباتات المحلية التي يمكن استخدامها في علف الدواجن وتحديد نسبة الهضم للنباتات المحلية. وستركز المرحلة الثانية على تنفيذ التجارب العلمية لدراسة علف الدواجن باستخدام النباتات المحلية. ويتكون المشروع من خمس مهام 1) الاعداد للمشروع، 2) تحديد القيم الكيماوية والغذائية من النباتات المحلية، 3) تحديد نسبة الهضم للنباتات المحلية، 4) تجميع البيانات والتحليل الإحصائي، 5) إعداد التقارير. ستكون نتائج هذا المشروع ذات قيمة عالية لمنتجي الدواجن لأنه سيزيد من توافر الأعلاف وتقليل تكلفته والحد من العلف.

The local poultry industry faces major challenge which is to increase production of high quality meat to cover the high demand for poultry meat. But the industry is facing constraints such as high feed cost. One of the suggested solutions is to use native plants as feed ingredient for poultry. If native plants propagated successfully under artificial environment it could be used as potential feed source for poultry to reduce dependency on feed importation. The aim of this project is to develop feed rations that include native plants as feed ingredient to replace part of corn and soy bean meal. The project consists of eight tasks: 1) Mobilization, 2) Determination of chemical and nutritional values of native plants, 3) Production of selected native plant leaves and seeds for poultry feed, 4) Determination of digestibility of selected native plants, 5) Investigate the effect feeding selected native plants on broilers and layers performance, 6) Data compilation and Statistical Analysis, 7) Cost/benefit analysis and 8) Reporting. The results of the projects will be of high value to the poultry producers since it will increase the availability of feed and reduce feed cost.
