Evaluation of the toxicity of marine sediment elutriate

يستقر جزء كبير من الملوثات في قاع البحر ويصبح جزءا منه. ولوجود الملوثات في نفس الموقع فقد اهتم بها الباحثون اهتماما كبيرا. لهذا يهدف البحث الى دراسة فعالية الاختبارات السمية للرواسب المستقرة في قاع البحر، لتقييم مدى سمية تصريف الملوثات الصناعية المختلفة الخطرة في منطقة الشعيبة الصناعية. وسيتم جمع العينات من ستة مواقع قريبة من مخارج رئيسية لتصريف المخلفات الصناعية السائلة بمنطقة الشعيبة الصناعية، ومن ثم سيتم تحليلها لمعرفة تركيزها من مواد كيميائية ودرجة سميتها. وسيتم ايضا أخذ العينات من الكائنات الحية البحرية مثل السمك والبكتريا والقشريات والرخويات البحرية المجهرية لتقدير درجة الملوثات بطريقة الفصل والتي تمثل المكون الحيوي الكامل للراسب القاعي.

This project is mainly designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of toxicity tests for assessment of multiple discharges from various industries in the Shuaiba Industrial Area (SIA). The marine sediments from six stations located at major outfalls of the SIA and from a reference station at Khairan will be collected and analyzed for chemical contamination and toxicity evaluation. Multi-species bioassays using fish, gastropods, crustacia, rotifers and bacteria will be conducted on aqueous sediment elutriate. The study will identify hazardous sites, determine the extent of contamination and the potential for release of hazardous constituents from the sediment.
