Abstract English
Insuline like several other effectors, alters the phosphorylation status of ribosomal prote?n S6. It is proposed that S6 phosphorylation might control protein synthesis by affecting the steady state level of robsomes. This is achieved in the following series of steps. Firstly, 56 phosphorylation alters the pattern of mRNAs that are being translated, by increasing the initiation rate of weak messengers, which in turn will influence the rate of ribosome synthesis.
Dephosphorylation of 36 will alter the conformation of 40 s subunit, thereby reducing its affinity for components of the Initiation system and favouring the formation of monomeric ribeomes. Accumulation of monomeric ribaomes in all the cell will in turn increase the rate of ribsome degradation.
