Reproductive Performance, Monosex Culture and Hybridization Studies of the Improved Strain of the Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus)

إن تربية سلاله محسنه من أسماك البلطي النيلي التي تتميز بسرعة النمو سيعمل على تحسين القدرة الإنتاجية لأسماك البلطي الطازجة وزيادة ربحية المزارع في الكويت. كذلك فان إنتاج هجين من البلطي يتميز بسرعة النمو ويتحمل ملوحه ماء البحر بشكل أفضل سيمكن المزارعين من تربيته في مدى واسع من الملوحة (0–40 جم/لتر). بالإضافة إلي ذلك فان استزراع ذكور السلالة العادية أو ذكور وإناث السلالة المحسنة سيحقق زيادة إضافية في كمية الإنتاج. تم في هذا المشروع مقارنة الأداء التزاوجى للسلالة المحسنة بالسلالة العادية وكذلك مقارنة استزراع جنس واحد من كلا السلالتين. كما كان من بين أهداف المشروع إنتاج هجين من أسماك البلطي يتميز بسرعة النمو وبمقدرة أفضل علي تحمل الملوحة.

The culture of the fast-growing GIFT strain of Nile tilapia would improve the production potential of fresh tilapia and increase the farm profitability in Kuwait. Moreover, the development of a tilapia hybrid that has a combination of fast growth and better tolerance to seawater would enable the farmers to grow tilapia in a wide range of salinity environment (0-40 ppt). In addition, monosex (single-sex) culture of the males of the normal strain or both sexes of the GIFT strain would further improve tilapia production. The project aimed to compare the reproductive performance of the GIFT and normal strains and to compare their monosex culture. The project also aimed to develop a tilapia hybrid that has a combination of fast growth and better salinity tolerance
