National Registry for Children with Cancer in Kuwait from 2004-2018

يستقبل قسم أمراض الدم وأورام الأطفال في مستشفى البنك الوطني – مستشفى الصباح جميع الأطفال المصابين بمرض السرطان في دولة الكويت كونه المركز الوحيد في الكويت لعلاج مرض سرطان الاطفال. ويستقبل المستشفى في كل عام نحو 100 حاله جديدة لأطفال مصابين بالسرطان، كما يتابع قرابة 400 طفل المستشفى لتلقي العلاج المتواصل والمتابعة. انشئت وحدة علاج امراض الدم وسرطان دم الاطفال في منتصف السبعينات وافتتح مستشفى البنك الوطني الكويتي التخصصي في عام 2000 وحتى ذلك التاريخ جمعت الاحصائيات المتعلقة بمرض سرطان الدم لدى الاطفال عبر جهود فردية، وبطريقة بدائية وذلك لصعوبة جمع المعلومات الأساسية بسبب نظام الملف الصحي القديم ولكن بعد تحديث النظام وانضمام وحدة علاج الأورام وتغيير مسمى الوحدة الى قسم أمراض الدم، أورام الأطفال كان من الضروري تحديث نظام جمع المعلومات في المستشفى وذلك لتقييم وتحسين جودة الخدمات وحساب نسبة حدوث ونسبة تفشي مرض السرطان لدى الاطفال ومقارنتها عالميا، وتقييم العلاجات التي يقدمها المستشفى بالإضافة الى تقديم ارضية للقيام ببحوث طبية مستقبلية والانضمام الى مجموعات بحثية عالمية تساهم في المساعدة على معرفة أسباب المرض والوصول إلى طرق علاجية سلسة وسهلة. كما سنتمكن عالمياً من مشاركة إحصاءاتنا.

The Pediatric Hematology Oncology department at NBK hospital Sabah hospital receives all children who are diagnosed with cancer in Kuwait. Each year NBK department receive around 100 new cases, and currently there are around 400 children on regular follow up at NBK hospital. The department was established in the seventies as a hematology and leukemia unit. The new NBK hospital was opened in the year 2000. The pediatric oncology unit joined the hospital in the year 2010, and in the same year the department for pediatric hematology oncology was named. Since the establishment of the unit back in the seventies the patients' statistics was gathered by personal effort of the doctors of the unit, which was not accurate as the patient file system was not well established until the year 2000. This made it difficult for the specialists to determine the prevalence and incidence of different cancer diseases affecting children, and was difficult for the researchers at the state of Kuwait to compare the prevalence and incidence of cancer in children to those internationally. This study would provide a foundation to any future medical research of pediatric cancer, and may help NBK hospital to join international pediatric cancer research teams, who are working hand in hand to improve management of childhood cancer. We will be able to share our statistic globally.
