Poultry Biosecurity : A Case Study at Kuwait United Poultry Company (KUPCO)

تعتبر صناعة الدواجن من أهم صناعات الإنتاج الحيواني الرائجة و المستقبلية في دولة الكويت، حيث تزيد قيمة مبيعاتها التجارية لأكثر من 23.000.000 دينار كويتي سنويا. و بالرغم من أن هذه الصناعة من الصناعات المتطورة في الكويت إلا إنها تفقد قيمتها الاقتصادية بسرعة في حالة إصابة الطيور بالأمراض. و لهذا فان معظم شركات صناعة الدواجن في العالم قد طورت إجراءات احترازية لتضمن سلامة الدواجن من الإخطار البيولوجية و لاستخدامها للحماية و السيطرة على الأمراض. و لكن في حالات عديدة, التطبيقات الوقائية و التي تشمل التطعيم لم تتم بالشكل المطلوب و لذلك فان البرنامج الشامل لم يعطي التأثير المناسب. و على هذا الأساس فانه من الأهمية على شركات الدواجن الكويتية أن تطبق البرنامج الشمولي لنظام الاحترازات الوقائية بجميع مزارعها لضمان إنتاجية عالية الجودة. خلال هذا المشروع و الذي استغرق مدة سنة، تم تطبيق نظام احترازي شامل. هذا البرنامج يشمل أنظمة عالمية لها علاقة بالمعايير الاحترازية لمزارع الدواجن. لقد تمت الدراسة في مزارع الشركة الكويتية المتحدة للدواجن في منطقة الشقايا كدراسة حالة. و قد تضمن المشروع ثلاثة مهام, تم بها تقييم كل مزارع الشركة. و بينت نتائج المشروع بأن الشركة قد بدأت فعلا ببرنامج الاحترازات الوقائية لديها في كل مزارعها. و من ناحية أخرى، تم تعديل و تطوير برنامج الشركة باستخدام الأنظمة الحديثة في القياس و التطوير بناءا على برنامج الاحترازات الوقائية العالمي.

The poultry industry in Kuwait is one of the most important animal production industries and its sales value exceeds KD 23,000, 000 annually. Poultry is highly susceptible to disease outbreaks that may cause irreversible economical loses to bird’s flock and to the poultry industry. Therefore, most of the poultry industries in the world have developed biosecurity measurements to maintain the safety of poultry from biological hazards and be used for protection and disease control of the poultry. However, in many cases, biosecurity practices including vaccination are not done probably since a comprehensive program usually is not in effect. Therefore, it is extremely important that poultry industry in Kuwait implement a comprehensive program in their farms to ensure better quality production. During this one year project, a comprehensive biosecurity program was established. This program included international regulation related to biosecurity measures for poultry farms. KUPCO was considered as a case study for the project. The project consisted of three tasks, in which an assessment was conducted for all farms of the company. The results indicated that KUPCO is implementing a biosecurity program in all farms. However, the company’s program was modified and improved using the updated regulations and measures related to biosecurity program worldwide.
