Exploring Factors Affecting Teachers' Professionalism in Both Public and Private Sector in the State of Kuwait: An Exploratory Comparison Study

The nature of teachers’ professional mandate has become a key policy issue for governments in many countries, sometimes as part of a broader attempt to define professionalism an important aspect of education reform. Many nations, including the state of Kuwait collect data about their systems and work with local and international agency to reform the education system. However, Current educational reform has a new emphasis on the involvement of a wider range of stakeholders – has resulted in a period of significant change for teachers. Since teachers play a vital role in applying new curriculum, teaching methods, using technology, and assessment, questions has been raised about the role of teachers and their needs to remain effective in their schools. A mixed method approach study will be conducted in both public (six school districts) and private (Bilingual – American – British) to investigate the elements of teacher’s professionalism. Consequently, and perhaps more than ever in recent times, we need to reflect on the appropriateness of existing notions of teacher professionalism to the context in which teachers work and to the goal of raising the level of the education outcome in Kuwait. This study has the potential to not only provide an overview of the current status to both private and public teachers’ status, but also to will help in creating a system to sustain teacher’s quality in both sectors in Kuwait.
