Organic Compounds for Inhibiting Corrosion in Crude Oil Distillation Units

Project: General ResearchGeneral Research 1984

Project Details

Abstract English

The efficiency of nitrogen compounds to inhibit the corrosion of the overhead system in crude oil distillation units in Kuwait will be evaluated. Most of these compounds are commercially available on the market. They will be screened and tested in a continuously refluxing kerosene-water mixture to which hydrogen chloride and hydrogen sulphide will be added. Promising compounds will be subjected to long-term testing in a crude oil distillation pilot plant (DISTOP 100) available in the Petroleum Technology Department at KISR. A technoeconomic evaluation will be made of the inhibitors found to be most effective. These inhibitors will be compared with commercial inhibitors used by the local petroleum industry.
