A National Survey of Kuwaiti Personal Well-Being: Phase 1: In the International Trauma Resiliency Program of Cross-Cultural Research in the Wake of Na

بعد غزو واحتلال الكويت بثلاثة عشر عاماً كان على فريق العمل قياس الصحة العقلية للكويتيين وذلك بالتركيز على المؤشرات الإيجابية. وبعد تطوير المقياس (KRS) ونشر تقريرين، عمل الفريق على اختيار عينة عشوائية مكونة من 828 مواطناً كويتياً والذين يمثلون المجتمع السكاني الكويتي والمكون من 973.286 كويتياً في ذلك الوقت (عام 2005). وبعد إجراء الدراسة الأولية ( ن = 50 ) وذلك للتأكد من صلاحية المقياس والإجراءات، قام الفريق بجمع معلومات مسحية بشكل عشوائي من مجتمع المواطنين الكويتيين والذين يعيشون في أسر من خلال عينة مماثلة. ولقد بذلت جهود مضنية لمسح عدد مماثل من الذكور والإناث، المحافظات، والأعمار بتصنيفاتها المختلفة. ولقد كان مجموع الدراسة الأولية والدراسة الرئيسية ( ن = 416 ) وذلك عندما تبين أنه لا يوجد اختلاف حقيقي بين المجموعتين. ولقد أشارت النتائج بشكل عام أن الصحة العقلية والمعنويات morale فيما بين السكان جيداً.

Given the Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait 13 years earlier the research team wished to measure the state of Kuwaiti mental health by focusing on the positive indicators. After developing the instrument to measure the dependent variable, the Kuwait Raha Scale (KRS) and publishing two reports, the team draws a representative sample of 870 adult Kuwaiti citizens who represented the entire Kuwait population of 973,286 of Kuwaitis at the time (2005). After conducting a pilot study (n=50) to fine-tune the instruments and procedures, the team collected survey data from the entire population of Kuwaiti citizens living in households randomly selected from representative sample. Efforts were made to survey equal numbers of males and females, governate, and adult age categories. The pilot and main study data (n= 416) were combined when it was confirmed that there were no significant differences between the two data sets. Results indicated that mental health and morale within the population is very good.
