Remodeling Canonical Multiword Units : Intertextuality in Kuwaiti Newspapers Commentary Titles

يهدف هذا المشروع إلى دراسة المواضيع (دينية أو أدبية أو سياسية أو غير ذلك) والألفاظ اللغوية متعددة الكلمات (الأمثال و العبارات الاصطلاحية و الشعر و غيرها) التي تشكل مصادر أساسية في إعادة صياغة عناوين المقالات في صحيفتين كويتيتين هما الوطن و القبس. كما يهدف إلى تبيان التقنيات النحوية و الدلالية و العروضية التي يوظفها كتاب الأعمدة في إعادة صياغة عناوينهم في ضوء هذه المصادر. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تسعى هذه الدراسة لمعرفة ما إذا كان للسياسة العامة للصحيفة (من حيث الخطاب المتحرر والخطاب المحافظ) أثر في اختيار الكاتب بين عنوان عادي بسيط و عنوان بارع يستقي شرعيته من عبارة أو نص سابق. و ستقوم الدراسة بعرض النتائج المستخلصة من منظور نوعي و كمي معاً. و تحديداً، ستتصدى الدراسة للأسئلة البحثية الآتية: 1. ما هي المواضيع (دينية أو أدبية أو غير ذلك) و أنماط التعبير متعدد الكلمات (مثل التعبيرات الاصطلاحية و الأمثال و الشعر و غيرها) التي تستخدم كمادة للعناوين معادة الصياغة؟ 2. ما هي التقنيات النحوية و الدلالية و العروضية التي تستخدم في هذه العناوين؟ 3. هل تؤثر السياسة العامة للصحيفة (الخطاب المحافظ أو المتحرر، على سبيل المثال) على الاختيار بين عنوان عادي واضح و آخر أعيدت صياغته ببراعة؟

The project investigates the themes (religious, literary, political or otherwise) and categories of multiword units (proverbs, idioms, verse, etc.) that are common inputs for remodeling commentary titles in two Kuwaiti newspapers namely Al-Qabas and Al-Watan. In addition, the study aims to identify the structural, semantic and prosodic strategies which are employed in remodeling such titles and whether or not the newspaper's general policy or ideology (e.g. the promotion of conservative vs. liberated discourse) affect the choice between a commonplace, straightforward title and a subtle, remodeled one. Specifically, the study aims to address the following research questions: • What themes (religious, literary, political or otherwise) and categories (proverbs, idioms, verse, etc.) of multiword units that are common inputs for remodeling in Kuwaiti newspapers commentary titles? A qualitative and quantitative analysis will be provided. • What structural, semantic and prosodic strategies are employed in remodeling such titles? A qualitative and quantitative analysis will be offered. • Does the newspaper's general policy or ideology (e.g. the promotion of conservative vs. liberated discourse) affect the choice between a commonplace, straightforward title and a subtle, remodeled one?
