The Kuwaiti healthcare system has taken extreme preventive measures to contain the covid-19 outbreak. The economic impact of the covid-19 in Kuwait has not been investigated yet. Objective: To estimate the economic burden of the covid-19 outbreak in Kuwait using a healthcare perspective. Methods: a cost of illness study. People of all ages with suspected or confirmed cases of covid-19 will be included. Primary outcome: Direct cost associated with the covid-19 outbreak. Study duration: February till the end of the covid-19 outbreak. Data collection: electronic medical records at Jaber Al-Ahmad hospital; inpatient files and lab reports from other hospitals involved in the treatment of covid-19. Reports from the Ministry of Health (MoH) will be used to identify cases who were screened for covid-19 outside the hospital setting.
