The Architecture of the Castles and Fortresses in the Arab and Islamic Civilization

شهدت القلاع والحصون الحربية جوانباً هامة من الأحداث التاريخية للحضارة العربية والإسلامية، إضافة الى ما وجد منها في طرق التجارة البرية والبحرية وقوافل الحج. وقد ازدهرت هذه القلاع بنماذجها المعمارية والفنية وانتشرت في فترة الفتوحات الإسلامية. وقد عملت الدول حديثا الى استغلال هذه المعالم ثقافياً وسياحياً واقتصادياً. سيتم في البحث دراسة إحدى الأنماط المعمارية في تاريخ العمارة الإسلامية ونشأة العمارة الحربية لعمارة القلاع والحصون وأسباب انتشارها وأهميتها وتطورها الفني والمعماري وكيفية استغلال النمط اقتصاديا وثقافيا وبشكل خاص في مجال النشاط السياحي حيث يلاحظ أن في السنوات الأخيرة وجدت كثيراً من الدول الأوربية والغربية (المانيا والنمسا وانجلترا) أهمية كبيرة لهذا النمط المعماري المميز وعملت على الاستفادة منه في مجال السياحة.

In the history of Islamic and Arab Civilization, certain architectural structures, such as castles and fortresses played an important and distinctive role. They were valued for their architectural and artistic significance and were established for political, economic, military and social reasons, thus leading to further development and expansion during the Islamic period. Many countries have recognized the importance of developing and maintaining ancient historical structures for the purpose of commercial enterprises such as hotels, museums, exhibitions, conference centres, festival halls and various other cultural activities. Hence, there is great need to preserve and revive ancient Arab architectures for its tremendous value and utility. The project aims at studying and analysing distinctive historical styles of Arab Islamic architecture, while understanding the importance, development and impact of such architectural structures and the political and social motives of their establishment. It stresses the need to restore and preserve Arab and national cultural heritage in the future.
