Review and Update of the Appendices of the "Convention on the Conservation of Wild life and Natural Habitats in the Countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council

اتفاقية "المحافظة على الحياة الفطرية ومواطنها الطبيعية فى دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية " هى اتفاقية أقليمية وثقت فى عام 2004م بين الدول الست الأعضاء بمجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية. تحتوى هذه الأتفاقية على ثلاثة ملاحق وهى: الملحق الأول- المجموعة النباتية، والملحق الثانى- المجموعة الحيوانية المهددة بالإنقراض، والملحق الثالث- المجموعة الحيوانية. وحيث ان احد مبادئ الاتفاقية هو التعديل الدورى لتلك الملاحق فلقد تبرعت دولة الكويت للقيام بهذه المهمة وتكاليفها المالية وترشيح مديرة المشروع للقيام بتلك المهمة. تتركز اهداف المشروع حول مراجعة وتعديل الملاحق الحالية للاتفاقية وبناء القوائم الوطنية الجديدة للحياة الفطرية فى كل دولة عضوة فى الاتفاقية توضح وضعها الراهن محليا واقليميا وعالميا ووضع توصيات حول نوع الدراسات الميدانية التى سوف تساهم فى تقيم الوضع الراهن للحياة الفطرية فى تلك الدول بطريقة علمية دورية منتظمة.

The Agreement on “Preserving Native species and their Natural Habitat in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries” is a regional Agreement that was documented in 2004 among the six member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Agreement contains three amendments, including: First Amendment-The Plant Group, Second Amendment-The Endangered Animal Group and Third Amendment-The Animal Group. Since one of the basic principles of the Agreement is to periodically revise and modify these amendments, the State of Kuwait volunteered to undertake this task and bear its financial cost. The project leader was nominated to conduct this important undertaking. The objectives of this project focus on reviewing and modifying the current amendments of the Agreement as well as building the new national lists of native species in all member countries in such away that reflects their current status locally, regionally and internationally. The project also aims to prepare recommendations on the type of field studies that will contribute to assessing the present status of native species in these countries in a scientific and periodical fashion.
