Abstract English

Kuwait's wildlife is under increasing pressure due to natural and human factors. For migratory birds in particular, Houbara Bustard Chlamydotis undulata is facing an increase pressure, largely from man-made factors. Numbers are declining because of unsustainable levels of hunting and trapping which makes this once a resident breeder that was common until 1950 to decline in number resulting in being classified as endangered species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources. Due to the increase decline of the Houbara, and its importance to the wildlife community, this proposal is submitted with the collaboration of the Environment Public Authority (EPA), to investigate the performance of the Houbara bird under captivity, and to manage and improve the performance of the Houbara. The study will be implemented with five main tasks; mobilization, evaluation of male and female production performance of the Houbara Bustard under captivity, housing environment of the Houbara Bustard under captivity, evaluation of the egg production of the Houbara Bustard under captivity, nutritional and diet formulation for Houbara bustard under captivity, data compilation and statistical analysis and reporting.
