Formulation and Standardization of Plant growth Media using Indigenous Materials

تحتاج عمليات الإنتاج الزراعي المختلفة إلى محيط "وسط" إنمائي مناسب، حيث تعتبر التربة الطبيعية في معظم الأحيان غير ملائمة لمهام الابذار والتكاثر بالحقل والزراعة بالأخص. ويتضمن الوسط الإنمائي الدعم الفيزيائي لتثبيت جذور النبات ووسط حافظ للمياه ومصدر لعناصر نمو النبات وتوفير الاكسجين المطلوب لتنفس الجذور. في هذه الدراسة سيتم تحضير عدة أوساط لنمو النبات باستخدام مواد أوليه محليه أو تعتمد على المخلفات الخضريه من المزارع والتحضير التجميلي، ويمكن تجهيزها بطريقة مبسطه يتسنى استخدامها بسهولة من قبل المرزاعين المحليي. ويكون سعر الوسط البديل أقل من المستورد.

Growth media or soil mixtures perform four functions for plant production purposes and they include physical support for plant roots establishment, a medium for water storage, source of plant nutrition and supply of oxygen for root respiration. Native soils are predominantly sandy and often have high levels of calcite, gypsum and precipitated salts. In this proposed study, an number of growth media will be formulated using locally available ingredients. The preparation techniques will be simplified to make such technology easily adapted by local users while maintaining complete physical and chemical reliability that provides optimum plant growth conditions. The raw materials to be used are either quite abundant or they are unwanted farmyard waste or green waste of landscape activities and, therefore, the cost of the developed media is expected to be cheaper than the imported alternative. The formulated media will be tested and modified to ensure that a sound and safe product is produced.
