Evaluation of Growth, Feed Conversion, Salinity Tolerance and Survival of an Improved Strain of the Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

يستهدف البحث إجراء تجارب أولية لاختبار كل من النمو، التحول الغدائي، مدى تحمل الملوحة ومعدل البقاء لسلالة من أسماك النيلي والتي تم تطويرها وراثيا. كما يهدف البحث إلى مقارنة أداء هذه السلالة المتوفرة حاليا من أسماك البلطي النيلي في دائرة الزراعة البحرية والثروة السمكية في المعهد وذلك ضمن نظام إعادة تدوير المياه. إن المعلومات التي ستوفرها الدراسة ستساهم في تحسين مخزون أسماك البلطي وزيادة إنتاج أسماك البلطي في دولة الكويت

The present proposal aims to conduct preliminary trials to test growth, feed conversion, salinity tolerance and survival rate of an improved strain of the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus and to compare their performance with the existing strain at the MFD using recirculation system. The information derived from these tests will help to improve the present tilapia stock and to increase the profitability and market share of tilapia in Kuwait.
