World Heritage Nomination for Kuwait Towers

يعتزم المجلس الوطني للفنون والعلوم والآداب بدولة الكويت بتقديم ملف ترشيح لإدراج أبراج الكويت ضمن التراث الحضاري لدى اليونسكو. قام المجلس بطلب الاستعانة بمركز أبحاث البيئة والعلوم الحياتية لتحضير الملف البيئي الخاص بذلك. ويشمل هذا الملف الأمور التالية: العوامل البيئية التي تؤثر على الأبراج، الاستدامة البيئية الخاصة بمنطقة الأبراج والوضع البيئي الراهن والمرتبط بمنطقة الأبراج. لتحقيق الأهداف المرجوة تم تصميم المشروع المقدم ليشمل تنفيذ دراسة تفصيلية حول طبيعة منطقة الأبراج بما يشمله من: استغلال للفعاليات الاسكانية والزراعية، جمع للبيانات القاعدية البيئية، دراسة معدل سرعة الرياح وخصوصاً معدل السرعة خلال المائة سنة الماضية والتي تؤثر على كينونة الأبراج، دراسة العوامل الاجتماعية – الاقتصادية المرتبطة باستخدام الأبراج، ومن ثم تدوين جميع البيانات والتوصيات التي تعمل على الاستدامة للأبراج وذلك على شكل بيان بيئي (دراسة مردود بيئي).

The National Council for Culture, Art, and Letters in Kuwait (NCCAL) is aiming to nominate Kuwait Towers (KT) to the world heritage (UNESCO) site list. Hence, NCCAL has contacted the Environment and Life Sciences Research Center, KISR to provide them with full documentation regarding the following: environmental factors affecting the property; sustainability of the property; and the present state of conservation. To achieve such objectives the current project is designed to conduct a detailed investigation on the landuse / landcover including the vegetation and the root zone extensions, collect environmental baselines, undertake studies using existing wind tunnel data coupled with calculated 100 years return period gust speeds for assessing sustainability of structure under changing environmental conditions, investigate on the socio-economic assessment of the property, and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on sustainability of Kuwait Towers. All the results and recommendations will be compiled into a dossier required to fill in the nomination for the world heritage site.
