Cinema in Kuwait: A Critical Study of Development of Film Industry in Kuwait

وفقا لمعظم المؤرخين السينمائيين، فإن السينما كصناعة من صناعات التسلية والترفيه قد تم اكتشافها في العام 1980. وكان أول نص سينمائي قد كتب يعود للعام 1903 وكان عنوانه "أعظم سرقة للقطار" والذي أخرجه إيدوارد بورتر في شركة اديسون للأفلام وبذلك الحدث تأسست إحدى أهم الصناعات ذات التأثير الاقتصادي والثقافي والتي اكتشفها الإنسان حتى وقتنا هذا. اليوم، صناعة السينما الهندية "بوليوود" تنتج أكثر من 1200 فلماً سينمائياً بالسنة بينما تنتج صناعة السينما الأميركية "هوليوود" حوالي 700 فيلم بالسنة. صناعة السينما ليست صناعة للتسلية والترفيه في الهند والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية فقط بل هي أساس للثقافة يعكس التركيبة الاجتماعية ومكوناتها في هذه الدول المنتجة وتأثيرها على ثقافات المجتمعات الأخرى. الكويت هي جزء من هذه الظاهرة حيث يقول أحدى المصادر أن الفيلم "أبناء السندباد" قد تم تصويره في الكويت عام 1939 بواسطة مصور استرالي وهو ألين فيلارز وبعد سنوات تلتها تأسست شركة السينما الكويتية في العام 1954 لتأسس بذلك دورا للعرض السينمائي والأفلام وانتاج أفلام عن الكويتيين والأجانب الذين يعيشون في الكويت. لذلك فإننا نستطيع أن نجادل ونقول بان الكويت كانت أول دولة رحبت بهذا النوع من صناعات التسلية والترفيه. وبالتالي فإنه ليس بمستغرب بان نعرف بأنه في العام 1972، قام خالد الصديقي وهو مواطن كويتي بإنتاج فيلم "بس يا بحر" وبذلك الحدث شهدت صناعة الأفلام الكويتية ولادتها. ولسوء الحظ انتكست صناعة السينما الكويتية في وقتنا الحاضر بالرغم من بعض المحاولات الإنتاجية في الثمانينات والتسعينات. هذا البحث سيناقش حالة ظهور واندثار السينما الكويتية وسيوثقها ليعرف الشباب الكويتي الأسباب وتكون حافزاً ليعيد لصناعة السينما الكويتية رونقها وصدارتها في المنطقة.

"According to most histories of the cinema, this form of entertainment was created in and around 1890s
and the first true narrative film was made in 1903. The Great Train Robbery, directed by Edwin Porter at
the Edison Film Company established an industry that has been one of the most important industries,
economically and culturally. Today, Bollywood makes more than 1200 films a year while Hollywood
makes around 700. These cinemas are not only a form of entertainment in India and the United States
but is a cultural foundation, which also reflects the sociological structure of those nations and its
influence on other cultures. Kuwait was not exempted from this phenomena and evidence states that
in fact a film, Son of Sindbad was shot in Kuwait in 1939 by an Australian photographer Alan Villiers
and a few years later “Kuwait Cinema Company” was established in 1954 to establish movie theatres
and import and screen films for the Kuwaiti and expats living in Kuwait. Therefore, we can argue that
Kuwait was one of the first countries in the region, which welcomed this new form of entertainment.
No surprise that in 1972, Kuwaiti national, Khalid Al-Siddiqi, produced BAS ya Bahar (The Cruel Sea)
promising the birth of a national cinema in Kuwait. Unfortunately, this was not the case and despite
many attempts, Kuwaiti cinema in 80s and 90s start diving down till today.
This research will attempt to argue that the rise and the fall of the Kuwaiti cinema and document and
structure it so that the new generation will be able to be inspired and motivated to regenerate the
cinema that Kuwait was once a pioneer in the region. As this research is about cinema (a visual art
form), I will make a DVD to accomplish this research visually."
