Media Translation Assessment: A Case Study of the Newsweek in Arabic

يمثل هذا المشروع دراسة حالة للترجمة العربية لعمود ثابت في مجلة النيوزويك لفترة ستة شهور من منظور تقويمي. وستخضع مادة الدراسة إلى فحص دقيق يهدف إلى الكشف عن الأخطاء الملموسة التي تلفت إنتباه القارئ العادي لإفتقارها إلى الفصاحة المعهودة في اللغة العربية. وسيتم بداية تقسيم هذه الأخطاء إلى فئات عامة تضم العناصر النحوية والمعجمية والخطابية. ومن ثم يتم تصنيفها إلى فئات أكثر دقه نحو الاستعمال النحوي والمتلازمات اللفظية وأدوات الربط. وأخيراً ستقوم الدراسة بالحصول على آراء متعددة من مترجمي النيوزويك من خلال المقابلات الشخصية و / أو الإستبانات للوقوف على ملاحظاتهم وسير أغوار حسهم اللغوي الذي يكمن وراء ممارساتهم في الترجمة.

The present project is a case study of the Arabic translation of a constant Newsweek column feature from a translation assessment perspective over a period of six months. The corpus will be subjected to a close examination aiming at detecting perceptible errors, which, lacks in idiom and therefore, draws attention of the readers. These errors are first divided into general categories such as structural, lexical and discoursal features, then they are classified and subsequently assigned to sub-categories like grammatical usage, collocations, cohesive ties, etc. Further, the Newsweek translators' comments and intuitions that are obtained through personal interviews and/or questionnaires are supported by analysis.
