The Extent and Determinants of Students` Perception of Sustainability in GCC Universities

يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحديد مواقف طلبة التجارة في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي من الاستدامة البيئية، وذلك من خلال استخدام الاستبيان. ويتوقع أن تخلص الدراسة إلى اختلاف قيم استدامة البيئة والسلوك والمواقف تجاهها باختلاف طلبة الكليات، حيث يتأثر ذلك بجنس الطالب وعمره، وفيما إذا كان الطالب يتلقى تعليمه داخل أو خارج الحرم الجامعي، والمنطقة التي قضى فيها الطالب معظم وقته للتحصيل العلمي. ومن المرجح بشكل عام، أن تكون الطالبات أكثر وعياً بقضايا البيئة من الطلاب. ومن المتوقع أيضًا أن يكون الطلاب المشاركين في الاستبيان وتستحوذ القضايا البيئة على جزء من برامجهم الاكاديمية أكثر وعياً بتأثيرات الانسان على البيئة بشكل أفضل من الطلاب الذين لا تتضمن برامجهم الاكاديمية أي مساق يتعلق بالاستدامة البيئية. لذلك يتوقع أن تساعد نتائج الدراسة في تحديد مواقف وسلوك طلاب كليات التجارة تجاه الاستدامة البيئية. ويتوقع أن تساعد هذه الدراسة في إماطة اللثام عن مواقف الطلاب الجامعيين في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي وسلوكهم تجاه الاستدامة البيئية. كما يتوقع أن تساعد نتائج الدراسة في تطوير المواد والأنشطة التدريبية، وكذلك تقديم اقتراحات لحماية البيئة واستكشاف حلول للمشاكل البيئية.

"The aim of this study is to examine the nature of environmental world views of students studying with GCC
universities. The specific purpose is to identify students› underlying environmental attitudes/knowledge and
to determine the impact of Education for Sustainability (EfS) interventions in the curriculum. In this study,
individual New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) scale scores are averaged across all 15 items and also will be
calculated as an average for each of the five dimensions of the NEP. We expect students› NEP scale scores
to be affected by geographic region (culture), age, gender, and EfS intervention. The results of the analysis of
the mean scores and relationships with other variables will be reported for both the control and intervention
groups. This study expects that sustainability values, attitudes and behaviors differ widely among tertiary
students, based on their gender, age, whether studying on or off campus, as well as the region in which
they have spent most of their time. In general, female students are more likely to be more environmentally
aware than male students. Students in intervention groups where sustainability is an essential component
of their course are also expected to be more aware of the impacts of humans and the environment in a
broader sense than students in control groups where the course had no sustainability element. This will be
confirmed by results of quantitative analysis, which expects that Education for Sustainability (EfS) will have
a significant and positive impact on student perceptions and attitudes towards sustainability issues values
and views, compared to students in control groups."
